Ulrich Klaas
Software development

In a nutshell: What is your job at MBS?

Software developer. Initially in gateway development and for the last two years in the development of our DALI stack (low-level driver), I also provide support in adapting to new customer hardware.

What excites you about your job?

The variety. I've been doing this job for more than 40 years now and it's never been boring or monotonous. Here at MBS, I love the proximity to the hardware and the fact that, in addition to programming, the soldering iron and various measuring devices are also part of everyday working life.

I don't like programming any "frameworks" I prefer to know the bits personally (by name :-) )

What makes working at MBS special?

MBS is something very special in my eyes. I've gotten to know many companies over the years (including customers) and at MBS I felt welcome and integrated right from the start. And that's despite the fact that I've always worked from home for the most part. When we meet in person in Krefeld, it's always as if we had just met yesterday.

What does a software developer do in his free time?

Reading, listening to music, observing space missions, repairing and restoring vintage hi-fi (mainly devices from the old German company DUAL, especially record players), small bass parts with microcontrollers. Although I have been "digital" for 40 years, I only listen to analog music :-) ! Sometimes a 50-year-old amplifier mixes with a Bluetooth module.

And when I don't feel like doing anything, I take out my Star Trek DVDs and disappear into my parallel universe - "Live long and prosper" :-).
