  • Corrections:

    1. Performance problem due to invalid packages

    2. The problem that BACnet packets with invalid coding cause a high processing load on the UBR has been fixed.

    Improvements:

    1. Network filter option

    2. The UBR has a new filter option based on BACnet network number and MAC address. For each configured BACnet connection, there is an optional filter for incoming BACnet traffic.

    3. The filter has two objectives:

Protection against too much data traffic
Broadcasts in a large network in particular can overload the network or individual devices in slower networks.

      Security against misconfiguration
The new filter can be used to prevent certain BACnet networks from communicating with each other. This can protect against unintentional misconfiguration.

    4. Configurable procedure for BACnet frames with invalid coding

    5. The new "Packet analyzer mode" controls the behavior for packets with invalid APDU encodings:

      1. "drop bad packets" decodes APDU for statistics and discards invalid frames (as with previous UBR versions).

      2. "pass bad packets" decodes APDU for statistics, forwards invalid frames instead of discarding them.

      3. "no packet analysis" does not decode APDU, so no information is available for statistics or discarding packets.

    6. SC own URI Support for list of URIs

    7. The configuration of the own URI for BACnet/SC now allows a list of URIs separated by spaces. Previously, only a single URI was supported.

  • Corrections:

    1. UBR-02 unreliable hardware detection
With the UBR-02 router - firmware revision 5.0.0.6, the hardware detection can erroneously start as UBR-01. This has been fixed in firmware 5.0.0.7.

    2. UBR-LON transmission error
It is possible that no broadcast telegrams are sent on the BACnet over LONtalk interface with the UBR-LON. This has been rectified.

    Improvements:

    1. Activation of the initial BACnet configuration
The UBR only reacts according to its configuration after the factory settings have been changed and saved. From now on, the factory configuration is active the first time the UBR is started.

    2. Support for BACnet/IPv4 Special Broadcast
Broadcasts on BACnet/IPv4 should have the subnet broadcast address, e.g. 192.168.1.255, as the destination. However, devices may send broadcasts to the IP address 255.255.255.255. The UBR has been adapted so that it now also processes this type of IP broadcast.

  • Corrections:

    1. UBR-LON unreliable hardware detection
In the UBR-LON, the hardware detection of the LON interface had a "race condition". In rare cases, the LON hardware was not recognized when the UBR-LON was started. This "race condition" has been fixed.

    2. Display of the router mode setting
The display of the "Router Mode" in the Web GUI sometimes showed the default setting for the respective UBR model instead of the configured mode. This issue has been fixed.

  • Corrections

    1. Missing check in the Web GUI for token timeout and reply timeout Token timeout is valid in a range of 20 to 35.
Reply timeout has a range of 200 to 300 milliseconds.

It used to be possible to save values outside the permitted range. This is no longer possible.

    2. If the "Slave Proxy" function was active, it could also change the routing of MSTP addresses from remote MSTP networks
This is now only possible for the directly connected MSTP bus.

    3. Display of the router mode setting
Sometimes the "Router Mode" display in the Web GUI showed the default setting for the respective UBR model instead of the configured mode. This problem has been fixed.

    Improvements

    1. Internal restart strategy changed
If one of several configured data connections had configuration or connection problems, the entire routing process used to carry out regular internal restarts to resolve these problems. The problem was that even functioning data connections stopped communicating during such restarts. Now, only the affected data connections are restarted internally.

    2. New data link status on the Web GUI input page
The input page of the Web GUI now displays a list with a line for each configured data link. Depending on the type and configuration of the data links, a status is displayed for the data link indicating whether there are any connection problems.

    3. Changed factory setting
The previous factory configuration of the BACnet data links attempted to map all data links as an example. The disadvantage: BACnet over Lontalk was only available in the UBR-LON variant - but the BACnet/SC data link requires the configuration of site-specific certificates. The factory setting has been changed to the simpler BACnet/IPv4, BACnet/MSTP setting. This mode is available on all models and now works "out of the box".

    4. New packet logging options for the UBR-CAP and UBR-BTF models Both routers can now capture MSTP traffic when configured in router mode. Previously they could only capture traffic in capture or BTF mode.

The UBR-BTF in BTF mode was previously only able to capture traffic to and from itself. Now it can capture all traffic on the MSTP bus, similar to capture mode. To do this, the "connection" setting in the .ini file must be changed from 3 to 7.

    5. SSL certificate for web GUI configurable
An externally generated SSL certificate for HTTPS access to the UBR web GUI can be uploaded to the UBR.

    6. The reset button can now perform a factory reset
If the reset button is pressed for longer than 30 seconds, the UBR is reset to its factory settings. All existing configurations will be lost. The IP address is reset to the default value (169.254.0.1/16). All passwords are reset to the factory settings.

    7. Improved GUI for configuring the device UUID
The configuration for the UUID has a new button to automatically generate a random UUID. Previously, the user had to generate a unique UUID manually.

    8. Specific SC modes
Previously, you had to select the "flexible settings" router mode for BACnet/SC and then configure the SC data connections. It is now possible to configure two specific router modes "SC only" and "SC + IP" for the most common use cases with BACnet/SC.

Use secp256r1 for the generation of public/private key pairs instead of RSA 2048 bit.

When generating its own key pair for BACnet/SC CSR, the UBR would have used the RSA 2048 bit key in the past. With the ASHRAE 135-2020cd addendum, it was newly decided that elliptic curve keys of type secp256r1 should be supported by all BACnet devices. The key generation in the UBR has been changed to generate keys of this newly specified type.

  • Corrections

    1. Possible crash when receiving inval id frames
If the UBR received certain PrivateTransfer requests with invalid BACnet coding, the routing process in the UBR could crash. Routing was restarted, but depending on the number of invalid frames, the UBR could not work for some time. The detection of invalid frames has been improved.

Version V5.0.0.0
02.11.2021

  • Universal BACnet router models
    UBR-01 Mk II, UBR-02, UBR-LON,
BMI-BTF Mk II, BMI-CAP Mk II

  • First version UBR 5.0.0.0

Version 5 of the firmware for the BACnet routers is a comprehensive revision based on the previous firmware version 4.

    Note

Incompatibility of the configuration backup from version 4 to version 5
Version 4 configuration backup files cannot be used to configure version 5 devices. Version 5 backups cannot be used with version 4 devices either.

    Core functions

    1. Support for BACnet Secure Connect (SC)
The UBR supports the BACnet Secure Connect data layer. The UBR can now be a regular node or a primary hub or a failover hub. The UBR allows BACnet routing from SC to its supported data connections and it allows more than one SC data connection and routing between SC data connections.

    2. Support for BACnet protocol revision 22
UBR version 5.0.0.0 is implemented in accordance with protocol revision 22. This means, among other things, that the UBR provides network port objects for its configured data connections.

    3. Support for MSTP extended frames
The UBR from version 5 supports MSTP extended frames. It can now receive and send frames with a data length of up to 1497 octets.

    4. New YOCTO-based operating system
The UBR from version 5 has a new YOCTO-based Linux operating system. This should make it easier in future to provide operating system updates when required.
