MBS GmbH supplements its BACnet universal routers with BACnet Secure Connect

For optimum safety in building automation: UBR-01 and UBR-02 support BACnet revision 22

Krefeld, September 14, 2021 - The innovative Secure Connect (SC) security infrastructure of the manufacturer-independent BACnet communication standard is now supported by the Universal BACnet Routers (UBR) from Krefeld-based MBS GmbH. "Our tried-and-tested network routers still have all the features that our customers value," explains Nils-Gunnar Fritz, Managing Director of MBS GmbH. "With BACnet/SC based on revision 22, a new configuration has now been added that makes it easier for property operators to switch to greater system security."

Equipped for the changeover

The two devices were given the new BACnet/SC data link layer. Their web interface has been adapted for this and now offers a different structure that includes additional pages for protected communication - for example for data exchange between individual devices, for encryption and for the certificates required for this. The previous features remain the same, so that data can still be routed with BACnet MS/TP, BACnet/IP and BACnet Ethernet.

Both products now include the current BACnet revision 22, which contains standards for setting up secure building automation. At the same time, they are designed to be downwards compatible so that existing BACnet equipment in an automation system can communicate with the new universal BACnet routers. This ensures both future viability and investment security.

Protect infrastructures

"BACnet/SC is the order of the day for building automation," emphasizes Fritz, who is also a member of the BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU). The global trend towards greater network security will also lead to stricter requirements for BACnet users in the future. The convergence with information technology, cloud-based applications and the security requirements of the German government and the European Commission will act as drivers of innovation here. Fritz: "With our products and services, we are consistently committed to making building automation systems more secure step by step and state-of-the-art."
