Gateway Overview
The Universal Gateway Platform from MBS
Today, building automation connects a wide variety of systems: building management systems, energy management, industrial automation systems, and cloud-based applications.
In order for these systems to communicate with each other, reliable translators between different bus systems and communication protocols are required.
The universal gateways from MBS perform precisely this task.
They connect building automation and industrial systems with each other and ensure smooth data exchange—regardless of manufacturers or system architectures.
All Universal Gateways are based on a common software platform with a central data point manager and software-based protocol processing.
The physical connection of different bus systems is achieved via integrated hardware extensions (IHE). This creates a modular gateway architecture that can be flexibly adapted to different project requirements.
One platform. Multiple series.
The Universal Gateway platform from MBS is divided into several series.
The series does not describe the use case, but rather the respective hardware architecture and performance of the gateway platform.
All series are based on the same software architecture and support the same protocol drivers.
The differences lie in:
hardware architecture
performance
scalability
form factor
XT Series
The next generation of the gateway platform
The XT Series is the technological advancement of the Universal Gateway platform.
It combines MBS's proven gateway architecture with a new hardware platform and additional security features.
An integrated secure element enables, among other things, the secure storage of digital certificates and encrypted file systems. At the same time, a more powerful CPU and expanded memory ensure significantly higher performance.
The XT Series is therefore designed for modern security requirements and future developments in building automation.
X Series
The established Universal Gateway platform
For many years, the X-Series has formed the technical basis for numerous integration solutions in building automation.
The series is based on a modular hardware architecture and supports a wide range of different bus systems via integrated hardware extensions.
Software-based protocol processing allows different communication protocols to be flexibly combined.
The X-Series will remain part of the product portfolio and will continue to be reliably supported for existing installations.
A Series
For large automation systems
The A-Series is based on the same Universal Gateway platform as the X-Series, but is designed for larger automation systems.
A more powerful hardware architecture enables significantly higher data point capacity and additional interfaces.
This makes the A-Series particularly suitable for complex integration projects and large building automation systems.
Universal Gateway Configurator
Not every project has the same requirements for interfaces, bus systems, or data point capacities. With the MBS Gateway Configurator, you can put together the right gateway configuration for your project.
The configurator helps you select suitable hardware platforms, bus systems, and extensions, and clearly displays possible gateway configurations.
