SYSTEMS NEED A COMMON LANGUAGE.
XT Series Universal Gateways
The new generation of the MBS Universal Gateway Platform.
Building automation continues to evolve.
Systems are becoming more interconnected.
Data volumes are growing.
And the demands for performance and security are increasing.
The XT Series builds on the proven functionality of the MBS Universal Gateways with a new generation of hardware. Compared to the X Series, a more powerful CPU and expanded memory provide additional capacity for demanding integration tasks.
The integrated secure element provides the hardware foundation for digital certificates and other security features.
The XT Series is being introduced in phases. Until the respective market launch, the corresponding X Series Universal Gateway will continue to be available for the models marked as such on this page.
One platform. Various bus connections.
All XT Series Universal Gateways are based on the same hardware and software platform. At the heart of the system is the Data Point Manager. It retrieves data from the respective source protocol and makes it available to one or more target protocols.
The communication protocols are processed via software. Depending on the project, protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, or OPC UA can be combined. The individual XT gateways differ in terms of their integrated bus interfaces. This allows for the direct connection of KNX, DALI2, M-Bus, or PROFINET systems, among others.
A common operating principle. | Different hardware configurations. | Tailored to each project.
Which XT Series gateway is right for your project?
The selection of the appropriate gateway model depends primarily on which systems are to be physically connected. If no additional bus connections are required, the Universal Gateway Core serves as the basis. For direct connection to a bus system or an additional IP range, appropriately equipped Core+ models are available.

Frequently Asked Questions About the XT Series
-
The XT Series builds on the proven operating principle of the MBS Universal Gateways with a new generation of hardware. A more powerful CPU and expanded memory provide additional capacity for demanding integration tasks. The integrated secure element also serves as the hardware foundation for digital certificates and other security features. The software-based protocol processing and the central data point manager remain core features of the proven design.
-
The Universal Gateway Core is suitable for integrations that rely exclusively on IP-based communication protocols. If a bus system such as KNX, DALI2, M-Bus, PROFINET, or CAN is to be connected directly, an XT variant with the corresponding integrated bus interface is required. Combined variants are available for the direct connection of multiple bus systems.
-
BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and OPC UA are processed via software in the MBS Universal Gateways and configured to suit the specific project. The terms KNX, DALI2, M-Bus, PROFINET, and CAN, on the other hand, refer to the gateway’s physical bus connection. Therefore, the selection of the gateway variant is primarily based on the systems to be directly connected.
-
Yes. The central data point manager retrieves data from the respective source protocols, assigns it to the desired data points, and makes it available to one or more target protocols. This allows, for example, BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, or OPC UA to be combined with one another. Models with multiple integrated bus interfaces also enable the direct connection of several bus systems.
