Universal gateways from MBS certified for Profinet version 2.3.5
/Update for significantly more process data and faster commissioning
Krefeld, November 09, 2021 - Thanks to their new firmware, the Universal Gateways Profinet of the Double-X and Triple-X series from MBS now comply with the more recent GSDML Specification 2.3.5. They have also been adapted to customer requirements with new functionalities. "With this update, we have tripled the scope of process data and at the same time made configuration much easier," says Nils-Gunnar Fritz, Managing Director of MBS GmbH. "This makes our Profinet gateways communication interfaces of the next generation."
Memory increased by a factor of 3
The Universal Gateways Profinet of the Double-X and Triple-X series act as interfaces between different bus protocols in industrial and building automation - such as M-BUS, BACnet, KNX or DALI. They can be configured flexibly and are ideal for connecting decentralized networks to a control system. As an IO device, they establish the connection to the IO controller and are compatible with all Profinet manufacturers.
The Krefeld-based company used the upcoming certification by the umbrella organization PI (Profibus & Profinet International) for a fundamental revision. The memory area of the gateways was expanded from 340 to 1,007 bytes of process data - i.e. by a factor of 3. This scope can be used as required. This means that the memory can also cope well with high-resolution measurement data.
Simplified module configuration
In addition, the module configuration has been significantly simplified: whereas previously two identical settings had to be set up manually on both the controller and the gateway side, the IO device now automatically adapts to the IO configuration specified by the IO controller. This significantly reduces the potential for errors during commissioning and reduces the need for support.
The gateways also provide five new data points that can be mapped in software and monitored remotely. They can be used as additional diagnostic options for the internal device status. "With our newly certified Profinet Universal Gateways, we are providing our customers with state-of-the-art hardware with a significantly expanded range of functions," summarizes Fritz. "The resulting shorter commissioning time contributes noticeably to cost reductions."
