XT Series Universal Gateway Core

The basis of the XT-Series gateway platform

The XT-Series Universal Gateway Core forms the technological basis of the new gateway generation from MBS.

It provides the central platform for integrating different building automation systems and enables the connection of different communication protocols within a common architecture.

Like all universal gateways from MBS, the Core Gateway is based on software-based protocol processing and a central data point manager. This allows different systems to be reliably connected to each other—regardless of manufacturers or system architectures.

The Core Gateway also serves as the basis for modular extensions via integrated hardware extensions (IHE), which can be used to connect additional bus systems directly.

The basis of a modular gateway architecture

The XT-Series Universal Gateway Core forms the technological basis of the gateway platform.

It provides the central software and system architecture on which various gateway configurations of the XT series are based.

Depending on project requirements, XT-Series universal gateways can also be equipped with integrated hardware extensions (IHE) that allow different bus systems to be connected directly.

These variants are based on the same gateway platform, but differ in terms of their respective hardware designs.

The Core Gateway itself focuses on platform functionality and the integration of software-based communication protocols.

 

Integration of different protocols

Building automation is characterized by a multitude of different communication standards.

The XT-Series Universal Gateway Core enables the integration of important protocols from building automation, industry, and IT systems.

These include, among others:

  • BACnet

  • Modbus

  • MQTT

  • OPC UA

as well as other industrial and building technology standards.

If a specific protocol is required in a project, MBS can also develop the appropriate drivers itself and integrate them into the platform.

IP-based protocols can be used directly via the Core Gateway.

For bus-based systems such as KNX, DALI, M-Bus, PROFINET, LON, or CAN, the physical connection is established via integrated hardware extensions (IHE).

This allows different systems to be reliably connected to each other.

The various gateway variants of the XT series are based on the same platform, but differ in terms of their respective hardware design and the physical connection of the bus systems.

 

Security and performance

With the XT Series, MBS is introducing a new hardware platform that offers additional security and performance features.

The XT-Series Universal Gateway Core features, among other things:

  • integrated secure element

  • Support for digital certificates

  • encrypted file systems

  • more powerful CPU

  • expanded main memory

This architecture creates the basis for secure and future-proof automation systems.

 

Expandable with integrated hardware extensions

The Core Gateway can be supplemented with additional bus interfaces through integrated hardware extensions (IHE).

This allows the following systems, for example, to be connected directly:

  • KNX

  • DALI

  • M-Bus

  • PROFINET

  • LON

  • CAN

  • X-Link

Combinations of several bus systems are also possible.

This creates a flexible gateway architecture that can be adapted to different project requirements.
