BACnet/SC in a campus network (variant 1)

A control center on a campus network with a large number of participants that are networked via the intranet. Data exchange in building automation is currently handled via BACnet/IPv4. An example of an application could be a hospital or university campus.
The building management system (BMS), which accesses the technical building systems in individual buildings and groups of buildings via the intranet, is located in the control center. The local network not only includes its own network with BACnet/IPv4-capable devices for building automation, but also other end devices such as PCs in the administration department.

These systems are effectively islands of local networks that exchange their data using BACnet/IPv4. The data packets are sent unencrypted and can be viewed - and possibly modified - by all participants in the network.

A UBR-02 can be used to physically secure the technical building systems. Its two network cards make it possible to separate the campus and BA networks: one network card is used to route only BACnet data between the two networks. The second network card is used to handle campus communication with BACnet/SC. Encryption means that data traffic is no longer visible to participants outside the building automation system.

The UBR-02 can provide maximum security in a local campus network.
